Toys of Wealthy Children
The children of the upper-class were much more fortunate than those below them. These children's families could afford toys from foreign countries. They also could afford little bows to hunt with their parents for sport. The picture depicts the Lady Pope with her sons and daughter. Notice that the boys are also wearing skirts. The smaller son carries a bow. All three are dressed in elaborate and most definitely expensive clothing. A notable wealthy child was William Shakespeare, who's family was wealthy through his entire childhood. Shakespeare attended a special school, where he learned to argue, a valuable skill for a playwright.
