Sports and Entertainment
There are various sources of entertainment and sports similiar to our time, and there are some forms of sports and entertainment we would now cringe at. The Queen loved forms of entertainment such as plays and bear baiting. The other classes also enjoyed these forms of entertainment, but also enjoyed sports like fencing. Quote from Romeo and Juliet
Act 2 Scene 4
"Mercutio: [Tybalt] More than Prine of Cats. O, he's the courageous cptin of compliments. He fights as you sing pricksong - keeps time, distance, and roportion; he rests his minim rests, one, two, and the third in your bosom! The very butcher of a silk button, a duelist, a duelist! A gentleman of the very first house, of the first and second cause. Ah, the immorta passado! The punto reverso! The Hay(II, 4, 806)!"
In this quote, Mercutio is referring to how Tybalt is very talented in fencing, an Elizabethan sport. He's explaing the tactics and strategies that Tybalt uses.
